Thinking About Wearing a Peter Pan Costume - What Does that Say About You?

The psychology of costume selection is fascinating, informative and a lot of fun. Learn what selecting a Peter Pan costume can say about you.

Peter Pan' Traits and Characteristics
Peter Pan is spry, agile, fit, forever young.  And the guy can fly! He's clever, playful, heroic, loyal and daring - even a little dare-devil.

Best of all, Peter Pan refuses to grow up.

If you choose to wear a Peter Pan costume it can mean you want to grow in some area.  Or there could be a part of you that you'd like to reduce.

Either way, here are some of the possibilities:

  • It's time to allow your playful and youthful side to come out more. If this rings true, spend more time having fun, playing games, laughing, being outdoors and doing lighthearted things. Spend more time with children. Be childish!
  • Time to get in shape, lose a few pounds, become more flexible and strong. Does this describe you? Exercise more; join a gym; play sports with friends or kids. Skip, leap and play outdoors like you did when you were younger.
  • You are ready to speak out more and to take a stand for what you believe in. If this describes you, you might join a public speaking organization like Toastmasters, read books on healthy boundary-setting and learning to say "no." Think about what ways you have been putting others' needs before yours and how you'd like to begin putting yourself first.
  • You are refusing to grow up. Where in your life are you resisting taking responsibility. Where are you being immature. Face the fact that you are an adult now and with that comes the weight of responsibility. Take stock. Only you can know what aspects of your personality, business life, relationships need to mature.
  • You have been putting too much emphasis on your age, aging and getting older. If you sense this is true for you, quit telling people your age. Realize that the human lifespan is more like 150 years than 90. So don't think of middle age until you're at least 70. Think of yourself as ageless - like Peter Pan.
  • You want to be more daring and take more risks. Your inner self may be crying out for a challenge! What area of your life is calling for your courage? Where would you like to take more risks?
  • You are itching to be a hero. What aspect of your life needs saving? What would you like to rescue? Take stock of the parts of you that have gone unnoticed, been neglected. Or is there a relationship that you'd like to save? A hobby, sport or interest you used to spend time on and don't any more. Is there another person you could really help? Join Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Become the hero of your own life.
  • You want to fly! Your life has gotten too grounded, too literal, too predictable, too managed and controlled. Take flight! Get the perspective you can only get from being above it all. Climb a mountain. Look at your life from different angles. Take a trip. Take flying lessons. Shake it up a bit! Do one new thing every day. If you feel too "tied down " make some changes so you feel more free.

If you are thinking about wearing a Peter Pan costume, take a look at Peter Pan's strengths and weaknesses. Let them show you what might be a next step in your life.
